The Scale of the Challenge of Likely Future Climate Change

Likely changes in 21st global temperature compared to changes during the last 11,000 years. The anticipated changes in global temperatures (as well as many other climate-relevant variables) during the 21st century will by far exceed changes documented in paleo data both in magnitude and the pace of changes. This will put the planet in a state unknown to civilization and the ecosystems of today. Modified by Plag (2014) from Marcott et al. (2013).
